My final project is a c-shaped end table in the rustic cottage aesthetic. The general shape has been inspired by existing end table designs. I have determined the dimensions of the table based on my couch. I wish for the table to push in and fit flush with my couch. I have chosen the rustic cottage aesthetic because I think it fits with my current decor and I really enjoy this aesthetic. I also knew I wanted to work with wood, which this aesthetic lends itself to. The planned dynamic aspect of my project is an extending leaf on the table top.

For my progress so far, I have gathered all of the materials I foresee needing for the project: wood, hardware, paints, and stains. I may switch out some of these materials for alternatives, but I shouldn’t need any additional types of materials at this point. I purchased pressure treated redwood, and I cut it to size. The wood is 2in thick, which is too thick for my currently planned leaf extension using a piano hinge, so I think I will switch out what wood I use for the table top to something thinner and lighter. I would stain the top white to intentionally contrast the redwood which will have a clear protective stain.

I will be painting colorful flowers and vines on the legs of the table to help emulate the cottage core aesthetic. I have gathered all of the paints I need and started sketching on paper what this design will look like.

I have sanded all of the parts to prep for assembly, and I have begun marking where the fasteners will be located. The wood pieces will be attached using wood screws and corner brackets for extra support for the base and table top. I am still deciding if I will cover the screw heads with wood putty. I am leaning away from doing so, and I have purchased brass color screws so they look nicer and fit with the aesthetic better. If I use wood putty I would also have to sand over it which would mess up the painting I’ve done.
Now that I have completed all of the preparation, I will begin painting my flower design this weekend. From there I will add the protective stain, then finally assemble the parts. The assembly should not take long as I have already planned it out. I plan to complete the table by Wednesday, one full week before the due date. This will allow me a week of cushion in case of unforeseen issues.

Well put together project! The idea to stick to brass colored screws in favor of not sand brushing the paint was a smart idea, I think the finished project will turn out great.
Thanks Cort! I’m hoping this hardware will mesh well with the aesthetic
