Mirror Work Dress ✨ Sparkle in Progress!

Okay big update on my main project — my mirror work outfit is finally starting to come together and I’m actually so hyped about how it’s turning out 😭✨

First things first, my mom came through like always. She helped source all the materials I needed from India — mirror pieces, chamkis, thread, fabric — and packed them all into a care package. The parcel reached my relative’s place in Denver (thankfully safe and sound) so I made a trip there during the break to get started !

Step one was finalizing the design. I was juggling a few ideas, but once I had the actual materials in front of me and with a little help from my mom I locked in my final plan. At first I wanted to try making a corset-style top, but Amma gently reminded me that it might be too much work for now 😅 so I went with a classic fitted top and will be adding padding later for shape.

The skirt though… slightly misbehaved 😂 The measurements were a little off and it turned out a bit loose at the waist, so I need to fix that. But the zipper is in and it already looks super stylish 💃

The basic pieces of the outfit — the top and skirt — are almost ready. Just a few adjustments here and there before the fun part begins.

Then came the fun part — embellishments. I spent time placing the mirrors and chamkis and tried different combinations. After some trial and error and sparkly chaos everywhere I decided on the layout. I’m keeping the mirror work minimal so it blends well with the outfit’s modern silhouette ✨🪞

Plan now is to visit my relative again this weekend, fix the fit, and start stitching on the mirror work. The skirt already has that vibe and I can’t wait to see the final look 🪡
