The aesthetic I’m aiming for is modular mid-century modern. Some alternative aesthetics could be Boho or Industrial. As defined by ChatGPT,
– **Industrial**: This aesthetic is characterized by raw, unfinished materials like exposed brick, steel beams, and concrete floors. It’s a utilitarian, rugged style with an emphasis on functionality over decoration. The color palette often includes dark tones, such as blacks, grays, and browns, with metallic accents.
– **Bohemian (Boho)**: Bohemian style is eclectic and free-spirited, with a mix of colors, patterns, and textures. It embraces warmth and a laid-back vibe, featuring rich textiles, like woven rugs and throws, plants, and a variety of vintage or globally inspired decor. Earthy tones and jewel tones are common, paired with a sense of individuality and creative expression.
My sketches are as follows.
I was inspired by a few different shelve types for the ‘different’ aesthetic part of the project. For industrial, I looked at a lot of industrial kitchen or makers space style shelves, they used steel, pipes, and sharp corners. On the other side, for Boho, I used organic space, nature based items, and kept the style light/airy. I think they really opened my perspective on what it means to select an aesthetic before selecting the project.
