For my main project, I want to build out the back of my SUV for car camping. This will likely consist of a large flat area to sleep on, storage space underneath, and some way to fold the entire thing in half so that the back seats can come up without taking the entire thing out of the car.

This is a big project, but I am hoping to use it this summer for a graduation road trip. I not only want to make a really exciting and aesthetically pleasing project for this class, but I want to make something I can take anywhere. Many of these beds that you might find online are simply made from particle board or something similar. However, it is important to me to spend a lot of my effort for this project on the aesthetics.

For my choices in aesthetic I am torn between a modern minimalistic, and cabincore. I have not decorated my car in any particular way so there is the worry that the cabincore aesthetic will be an odd match compared to the front half of the car. While I am more excited for the cozy cabincore look, I appreciate the minimalist aesthetic because I believe it is a very contrasting look, but also one that really matches the rest of the interior of my 2015 Honda.

Victor – Cozy Cabin

The cabincore aesthetic is not something I have seen in other car beds online. It is made up of large fluffy blankets, warm wood colors, and rustic lighting. It gives a very cozy feel and still looks complete while looking a little chaotic.

The Minimalist aesthetic is one I can find easily online. Beds are made of differing materials but are made with flat corners and are made to look clean and sharp. The colors are colder and while there is still stand out woods, it is primarily black and gray.

While I appreciate both of these aesthetics I personally want to continue pursuing the cabincore aesthetic. While it may stand out in a unique way I want to explore this new aesthetic and what it can bring to the car camping experience.

Your plan to combine functionality with a strong aesthetic focus is really exciting! The cabincore approach sounds like a unique take on car camping setups, adding warmth and personality. How do you plan to balance the cozy, rustic feel with durability and practicality for travel?
