5 Specifications and Constraints of Final Project

I am really excited about my final project. It will show off some of my favorite things, Formula 1 and Legos. I have four large sized sets that have a rough dimensions of 25 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 5 inches tall. The four I have are for McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull. There are several key features I want to make my ideas come true.

5 Key Features

  • Support the Cars
  • Clean Background
  • Cars at an Angle
  • Modular
  • Nice lighting

I really want to have these displayed on my wall and have them angled so I can see the sides and the top of the cars. The angle adds some difficulty. I also do not want these cars falling off since they are expensive, took a lot of time to build, and I plan on having this display above my computer. I also think lighting the cars or frames from the back will add a nice touch and meet the interaction requirement for the class. The last main thing I want of this display is having it modular. The goal of this is so I can change the order around or if I make more, I can make it interchangeable. This also makes it so if I move and teh space does not fit all 4, I could do a different amount.

5 Constraints

  • Price
  • Time
  • Weight
  • Modularity
  • Clean look

After some initial designs, it looks like the price is going to be pretty expensive. I realized I need two sheets of 2′ x 4′, 8′ of wood for teh frame, paint, print, adhesive, acrylic sheets, fasteners, picture fram hangers, etc. I think this end up costing about $150. Also on top of this, to make them all, it will take a lot of time. It also does not help that I have a ton of other projects for other classes, work, and I am a student athelete. Also one of my biggest concerns is the weight of the car and if the arms hold it up enough as well as the frame will be supported enough. I have seen that acrylic is enough to hold up the car from past designs, but I have not seen how it how I have been mounted. Also will my initial tests, they broke. I also did some tests with some prints and teh adhesive and it came out with several bubbles as well as seeing the adhesive through the paper. This means I need to get some nicer prints, causing teh price to go up if I want that clean look. Lastly, the modularity I want is doable, but will add challenge. This makes it so not everything must be perminantly secure like other parts. I also have to add connection points so I can disconnect the lights.
