For my final project, I am interested in creating a lamp that embodies my love of the aesthetics of sci-fi/space, the wild west, and warm lighting to create the ultimate interactive lighting experience.
There’s a bit of a funny thing that happened while I was trying to get ChatGPT to generate some sample images of what this might look like, feel free to reference the below video:
Anyways, my goal for this project is to create something that resembles some sci fi aspects as well as some kind of steampunky/retro looks that could be associated with the wild west in some way or another. Of all of the firearm saturated images that ChatGPT was able to make, I think this one most closely matches the general mechanical / warmly lit aesthetic of the lamp

Now, the hat absolutely will not make it into the final design, nor will necessarily all of the metal pieces. I believe that all of the metal pieces are from when I referenced ChatGPT to seek inspiration from the “High Noon” League of Legends video game skin series, which all have aesthetic choices I enjoy. However, I am interested in adding some nice stained wood to this design, perhaps serving as the base of the lamp.
Here is my own sketch of what I think the final lamp will look like. I want to have a combination of wood, warm light, simple edison bulb style designs, and perhaps some LCD screens or elements snuck in somewhere to enhance the futuristic / spacey aspect of this design.

When asked what the literal complete opposite of what ChatGPT had previously generated was, this is what it gave me.

My own sketch of this is similar, but I chose to go down a more morbid, gothic “spider web stained glass” look. Something that you feel could be found in a ghastly mansion. Something about that aesthetic spoke to me when it came to opposites regarding my lamp.

Trying to get chat gpt to remove the gun was so funny. I really like your idea. I am also doing a crystal lamp kind of thing and I think our projects will share a lot in common. I love the idea for your stained glass spiderweb pattern. That would be sick.
Hey Adam,
I was laughing out loud watching ChatGPT trying to figure out how NOT to add a gun to that scene. I suppose its like the example where if you ask ChatGPT to make a full (to the brim) glass of wine it can’t, because there aren’t many pictures online of people doing that for it to reference! Thanks for the feedback, I think our lamps might kind of serve as opposite aesthetics, it’ll be fun to see them side by side at the end of the year!
