My main project will be based on the “reminiscence aesthetic”. Based on my own interpretation from my childhood, I was surrounded by lots of stained glass from my grandparents house. Stained glass have always reminded me of my childhood and I would describe that feeling as reminiscent.
For my project, I wanted to create a stained glass jewelry box or a stained glass terrarium. The alternatives to this project could be using glass shards into a mural.
Glass making is typically on the expensive side so I am planning to build out the terrarium or jewelry box and paint the glass to get the stained glass look.

This idea is so lovely and I really like how you are relating it to your personal experiences! I know glassmaking can be quite expensive, but I highly recommend looking at ArtParts for stained glass shards and materials. I have gathered these kinds of materials from there and it is significantly less expensive. Plus, you’ll get some already broken shards that will allow for a visually interesting mosaic/mural as you mentioned as your alternative.
Alternatively, you could purchase colored acrylic sheets (or buy clear ones and dye them) and laser cut all of your pieces. It’ll appear like glass, but be much cheaper and easier to work with. I have been working with colored acrylic for my project and am currently purchasing through COHn Acrylics. They have so many options and great prices! You can even buy small samples to test if those are the right colors.
Overall, this sounds like a very exciting project and I hope to see how it turns out.
Hi Jessica,
I love this idea! It sounds like it will be really beautiful and meaningful. What if you use acrylic or clear plastic from packaging to color and glue/tape together to make it look like stained glass? That way it would not be as expensive as true glass making. It might detract from the overall look but it could be a way to make some practice projects before investing in glass. Super cool project!
