Personal Aesthetic
My personal aesthetic would be a mix of multiple aesthetics, when it comes to the aesthetic I want to portray I intially came upon naturecore, I love being outdoors, being adventurous, exploring the unknown, my favorite color is green or any earth tone, there are many things that connect me to this aesthetic. Naturecore is defined by a deep appreciation for nature, tranquility, and an organic way of living. It romanticizes the beauty of forests, wildlife, and sustainable lifestyles. I definitely fit into this aesthetic although when it comes to the outdoors and nature I tend think more on the terms of adventure! So I dug a little deeper and found explorecore, an aesthetic that embraces adventure, self-reliance, and the thrill of discovering the unknown. It is about actively venturing into it nature—hiking through uncharted forests, navigating by the stars, and uncovering forgotten places. The key characteristics of explorecore are a spirit of Adventure, rugged, functional fashion, and a connection to the wild. I definitely show this aesthetic through my fashion choice, what I put on social media, and partially in my decor. Although, when it comes to my interior design of my room for example it definitely takes on a maximalist aesthetic. As well as the art I make, when I doodle or make a collage or art piece, it tends to be very chaotic, words and drawings clash and your eye is drawn all around the page or canvas. The maximalist aesthetic embraces excess, boldness, and self-expression through layering of colors, patterns, and textures. It stands in contrast to minimalism by rejecting the idea that “less is more”—instead, it thrives on chaos, eclectic combinations, and a sense of playfulness. Maximalism is influenced by many 20th century design movements. The most prominent is Postmodernism, a movement from the 1970s-1990s, it deliberately rejected Modernism’s clean lines and minimalism, embracing eclecticism, irony, and excess instead. It encouraged mixing eras and styles, bold colors and patterns, and personal expression over rules. You can also see influence from the Art Deco design movement from the 1920s-1930s. Art Deco’s opulence and intricate designs brought a sense of luxury and boldness that still echoes in Maximalist interiors and fashion today. As for explorecore, it draws on the Arts & Crafts Movement, though it began in the late 19th century, the Arts & Crafts movement carried into the early 20th century and provides the foundation of handmade craftsmanship, organic materials, and a deep respect for nature. Explorecore, manifests this movement in a more rugged and functional way—less about aesthetics for their own sake and more about durability and connection to the land. It contributed handmade, durable gear, earthy materials and colors, and a rejection of Industrialization. These two aesthetics have a lot to do with how I present myself and how I go about my daily life and I’m really happy these are my main aesthetics, as they are coined by self-expression, curated chaos, and a a connection to nature.

Project Planning and Inspiration
When starting to plan my main project, I thought about what medium I wanted my project to be. For my upcycling project I made a product, a functional fruit bowl, and this time around I want to create some sort of visual art instead of something functional. It took me a while to come to a decision on what aesthetic I want my art to be in, after some brainstorming I couldn’t land on anything that interested me, so I took a brain break and scrolled on instagram for a bit. I saw a post about the rise of the Early Virtual Aesthetic in Recent years, so I want to create a painting that resembles early video game aesthetic, early 3D animation, or old media graphics. For the interactive part I think I will incorporate some sort of interactive lighting into my piece.
Here’s the inspiration I found from Instagram. The account I found it on is @welcome.jpeg.

Hi Witt, I liked your explanation of your aesthetic and how it is a mix of multiple, but I think you did well in emphasizing how adventurous it seems. I like that you want to do something artistic and seemingly in the virtual space. You can use many different tools, and I wonder what you will make.
Hi Witt,
Your article does great deeply explaining the depth of your personal aesthetic by blending the adventurous nature of explorecore with the self-expression of maximalism. Your shift from functional design in your upcycling project to a more visual and interactive art piece was pretty cool, as it demonstrates a willingness to explore new ideas. How do you plan to balance the structured idea of early virtual aesthetics with the more chaotic choice of maximalism in your painting?
