Within the past week, I have narrowed down my exact plans for my project. I decided on going with a cyberpunk-inspired car body. However, I will not be diving deep into the cyberpunk aesthetic as it is not exactly what I am looking in terms of aesthetic. Specifically, I want to approach the dark undertones with the bright lights. To bring this to life, I plan on using Cormango’s AMG GT 63 Coupe body as my base car.

The AMG GT is mostly known as a luxurious, modernist car. I want to completely change the aesthetic with cyberpunk elements. Using edge lit acrylic techniques, I want to add the bright lights to this car in various stylistic elements. I am planning on adding these lights to the underbody, rear, and possibly some more elements throughout the body. I also want to create body elements that make the car appear more aggressive, similar to the black series GT version of this car. For the main color, I plan on using a metallic dark blue from Polymaker. Going with the dark color will make the light elements pop out more.

The lighting is something I want to contrast a lot, similar to how cyberpunk themes color themselves. For example, take Across the Spiderverse’s portals. There are dark elements as the focus, but the portal itself is illuminated using warm yellows, oranges, reds, and some magentas. I want to achieve this color scheme in the lighting. As to the patterns to illuminate, I have not exactly decided, but I am planning on going with race car patterns to fit the theme of the car more.

To make the car an RC car, I will be using the recommended chassis from the body modeler, the DKS-Basic chassis from Duke Doks. This platform is easily manufactured, and does not involve as many components as other chassis. I can also add in any electronic kit, and I plan on heavily modifying the power to easily control all the lighting.

Considering some alternative aesthetics, one that instantly comes to mind is a Post-apocalyptic Mad-Max style aesthetic. This would entail creating a more rugged and worn car body. A few things I could think of to add to design elements of a car body are patched panels, plating, and heavy duty wheels. This aesthetic clashes a lot with the original car’s aesthetic, but a way I think to get around this is to incorporate all the elements as newer modifications.

One other alternative aesthetic I can think of is continuing the minimalist aesthetic of the current model of the AMG GT, and giving it a few more futuristic elements. This would be very similar to how current car design has been evolving. Imagine less vents, and more futuristic/geometric headlights. The front grill of the car would be completely smooth. The aesthetic that comes from this looks very similar to the styling of current electric cars. As this removes design elements, the aesthetic I am trying to achieve adds elements, contradicting the minimalist aesthetic shown below.

Bryan I really like the aesthetic choices you have made for the design of your RC car, the colors from Into the Spiderverse are so appealing to the eye and I think as accent lights and designs will lend to a very cool visual look. Do you plan on keeping the body color the same grey color as shown in the pictures? Or repaint to something else?
Looks super cool, I love the color choice for the underglow and accents. This is going to be a really cool project.
Thanks, I really want the accents and the light effects to contrast and be vibrant. I am excited as to how this project will turn out.
