I wouldn’t necessarily say that I have a personal aesthetic. I suppose I take different bits here and there from other aesthetics, but I definitely do not conform to one or even a couple of aesthetics. Instead, I’ll just give examples of some aesthetics that are around me that might influence my personal expression.

One aesthetic that is common in Boulder is the granola/outdoorsy aesthetic. I don’t really enjoy this aesthetic when it goes to far, as it seems like sometimes people are trying to be something they are not, but a little bit here and there is cool. For instance, I sometimes like wearing outdoors gear just to go to class (for instance climbing pants or a shell). It not only looks cool but also is functional and comfortable. Example below from David on Pinterest.

While this isn’t exactly my style, you get the idea. Basically just outdoorsy looking stuff. I like this aesthetic because it is comfortable, practical, and outdoors gear/clothes are usually high quality and last a while

Another aesthetic that I have seen around is minimalism. Some of my belongings such as my desk and bed fit under this category. I like clean simple furniture, paired with colorful and busy decorations. The contrast is very appealing to me and it keeps a space from being too busy or too simplistic. My bed is kind of like the one below (image from artfasad.com) while my room is decorated with more color with posters such as the one below.

.

I don’t plan to incorporate these aesthetics into my final project, but anything can happen, so we will see. First I have to come up with an idea for the project then I will see where that leads me. Overall, I like drawing from many different aesthetics and I think my final project will reflect this, being a mix of many things.

This is an interesting perspective, I hadn’t really thought about how a personal aesthetic could be influenced by multiple different aesthetics with somewhat varying vibes but it was very cool to read about your room with minimalist furniture and maximalist decor. I also really struggled to come up with an idea for my project but found it easier to think about a particular item I might find useful and would actually want to make, and then conforming a particular aesthetic to that item afterwards. Good luck, I’m excited to see what you might create.

Hi Cason! I appreciate that you recognize and acknowledge that you don’t really fit into certain aesthetics in particular, but rather take bits and pieces from various styles and use them as you see fit. You said you don’t really know where your main project is heading right now, could you foresee making something that reflects your own eclectic styles? For instance, something that has both minimalism and outdoorsy aspects? So that it’s not confined to just one aesthetic, but takes influences from various ones!
