I have many personal aesthetics depending on the context and situation—from clothing to decoration to general lifestyle. Regarding clothing, I follow a generally minimal and comfortable aesthetic. I do not have many bold colors and prioritize clothing that looks good while still comfortable. For decoration, I consider my aesthetic to be eclectic. The decoration in my room and house is very mixed and contains a lot of different styles. My room has many band posters that push forward a vintage aesthetic. I also have some cheap white furniture that moves along with a clean aesthetic. Then, I have technology like a PC and a 3D printer that, aside from being used, gives off a futuristic visual aesthetic. I also have some plants that give off an earthy and warm aesthetic. Overall, my bedroom has some mismatched aesthetics that I feel come together nicely. While I am not yet sure what my project will be, I plan on doing another project that can be used as decoration for my room or house. My previous project, the Lebron Hennessy Lamp, has been a nice edition, and I like the idea of making things I will see all the time and use.

Many different design movements inspire the type of aesthetic that I envision for my project. One of these is midcentury modern. Mid-Century Modern design is a movement that greatly influenced interior, product, graphic, and architectural design from 1945 to 1970. Midcentury modern design often features wood and organic shapes that give a warmer feel to decoration. This design also can be very eclectic by nature because of the unique shapes and styles of furniture included in it.

This aesthetic mainly caught my eye because I have seen it on social media. When looking for new furniture and decorations, I looked on TikTok for inspiration. The design styles that I liked were mainly labeled as eclectic. After searching through these videos for inspiration, the primary sub-category of eclectic decorations that caught my eye was all labeled as mid-century modern.

The design will likely be based on a lighting, poster, or visual piece inspired by my childhood. I grew up loving listening to classic rock music, playing video games, and watching sports. I plan on making a project that reflects one of these passions. My project will stay in the eclectic aesthetic when it is next to the rest of the decoration in my room. But that speaks more to a lack of theme for my decoration. In an individual light, I do not think I will maintain a midcentury modern aesthetic. While I enjoy the style, it may be hard for me to replicate it effectively. I still have not entirely decided on the project, but it will be based on one of my passions that I just mentioned. Also, as mentioned before, I enjoy comfortable things and eclectic styles, so I hope to have a project that combines the two.

I love how your eclectic style blends vintage, modern, and organic elements, making your space unique and personal. Your plan to create something inspired by your passions is exciting! Since mid-century modern caught your eye, are there any specific elements—like materials or shapes—you might incorporate, even if the project doesn’t fully follow that style?

      Hello James,
After doing some research about possible project ideas I have found an interesting design concept. I am looking into completing a gyroscopic watch winder. There would likely be a lot of circles involved in the design. The material would either be wood because it follows the aesthetic or plastic because it would make fabrication more realistic.

    Hi Garrison,
Thanks for sharing! I too enjoy the warm eclectic aesthetic. Is there anything about your upbringing that you think draws you to this aesthetic? Was your childhood home or some other important place decorated in this way? I’m looking forward to seeing how you will implement this aesthetic into your main project.

      Hello Chrisanna,
Thanks for the reply! I think my upbringing does have some ties to the aesthetic. There is not a specific aesthetic in my house that I grew up in. Because of this I really enjoy the eclectic aesthetic. I also have always had warm lighting in my house so that contributes as well.
