I’ve had my final project idea since the start of class and have put a bit of thought into it already. I want to make a custom bookshelf that’s capable of holding a variety of sized books and magazines, a record player along with vinyls, and an assortment of tools.
For the aesthetic of this project I have yet to pick a specific one, but I want to lean into the following concepts, Mod, 80’s, retro, geometric, and ‘sitcom furniture’. I want the shelves to be modular, the whole thing to look clean and cohesive, while also having each shelf/part it’s own ‘statement’. I think my experience with retro movies and a fascination for antique woodwork pieces has brought my attention towards these themes.
So far I’ve done the following sketches, starting a plan as to how the shelves will look, and where each piece will exist.
I’ve put together a Pinterest board linked below with many different inspirations of what I’d like the bookshelf to look like and some of the components of what it’ll hold.

Hello Matt! This post was so inspiring, it is really nice to see that you already have a set plan for your final project, and I love how it perfectly aids your aesthetic! I did just want to mention that if you are ever interested in personalizing the wood even more, maybe think about engraving through laser cutting
Hey Matt! I think this is a great idea. Are you thinking of placing items other than books on it? I think this project will turn out great
