I think that it is super hard to pin down a super specific aesthetic for myself. I draw from a lot of different aesthetics and change mine a lot. I also think that my aesthetic with clothes and fashion differs from my aesthetic with decorations and interior design. This assignment has made me reflect a lot though on where I draw inspiration from and what has influenced how I choose to express myself.
This picture above is a screen clipping from my Pinterest board for my future homes. I love a room that feels lived in and full of life. A few themes throughout my decor now are colors, vintage pieces, and pieces that hold memories. Overall, I think I have an eclectic aesthetic with my decor. I love have decorations around me that fill me with joy, whether that is letters from my parents or old pictures. I think I care more about how it makes me feel than how it actually looks or what aesthetic it follows. Below I have put some pictures from my childhood bedroom, dorm, and college houses. From a young age, my parents let me express myself, as you can see from the neon green paint job. I think this has heavily influence my overall aesthetic because I was able to try different things from a very young age. They also decorate our house will a lot of family pictures and memorabilia which has influenced me to use a lot of my own memories to decorate. Lastly, I love have vintage pieces in my space. I think this comes mainly from my sister who got me into thrifting when we were in grade school. She always found perfect pieces and decorations at the thrift stores and would take me with her and help me to do the same.
I have always been super interested in fashion and clothes. It is hard to really wear everything that I want to wear though in college, especially when sweatpants are so comfortable. With clothes, I love a pop of color, nicely tailored clothes, and fun patterns. My style has changed drastically throughout the years, especially throughout college. I grew up wearing a uniform so it was not until four years ago that I really had the ability to dress up everyday. I have found a lot of my influence from Pinterest and from tv shows/movies. But I also try to wear clothes that make me happy and comfortable. I have a clipping below from my Pinterest board.
I honestly think that it can be kind of harmful to try to place yourself into a very specific aesthetic. It can be very limiting to try to form to just one thing and I think that we often try to push that onto people to often in today’s world. People seek an aesthetic instead of actually expressing themselves.
For my final project, I do want to stay within my aesthetic realm because I want to make something that I will actually use. I am not totally sure what I am going to do yet, but I am thinking of doing some kind of decoration for my room. One idea I had was to make a book holder out of an old pair of skis and use to it hold up the books on top of my dresser. Another idea I had was to make a collage to hang in my room.
All pictures but the last are mine.

Elisssseeeeeee! I loved how you described your aesthetic choices! I’m personally a fan of your style and you do such an amazing job mixing comfort and chic especially with your color and pattern choices. Both of your project choices are amazing and I’m so excited to see it come to play. I also have a suggestion for the collage, since you mentioned decorating your place with family pictures and memorabilia I think making a collage filled with all your college memories will be so meaningful and cute!!
Hello Elise! This is such a great post, I loved every detail and word you used to describe your aesthetic. It is so interesting to learn about your aesthetic choices while also seeing how you incorporate it in your life. Overall, such an amazing post! Just to add as a side note, if you don’t have any old skis laying around, I know goodwill always does!
