I read the assignment for this post before the weekend started and I have constantly been thinking, what is my aesthetic? I was lost. I couldn’t quite call my self a goth or mountain man or anything, and I really began to reflect on my passions. I primarily just enjoy activities I can do outdoors. I love to ski, fish, bike, and in the summertime it is impossible to get me out of the lake or river where I enjoy paddleboarding and all sorts of activities to enjoy on the water. However, it was never one activity that I held as my true passion.

My whole life, I was always good and enjoyed physics and such, so I figured it was what I would pursue. However, I was much more passionate and invested in learning of history and human geography. I was compelled of seeing how the people of our world live and share it with one another, from religion to culture and all ways of life, as well what has driven that of them. From this I live my dreams of being a life long traveler.

It’s not quite an adventure aesthetic that comes from this. More of a global aesthetic. An aesthetic that could mend various entities of culture and life around the world. Perhaps a project would involve elements of as many different cultures as possible. An issue rises from this. It is too open ended. It would be difficult to incorporate this throughout a project. Buildings struggle to incorporate a few different cultural attributes.

I then needed to list some of the most global things in the world I could think of in the following list.

  • Music
  • Curiosity
  • Exploration
  • Sports
  • Spirituality
  • Language

And many more. Two really stood out to me being both music and sports. I immediately thought of the Olympics symbol and music disks. I wouldn’t be satisfied in making the symbol out of disks as I don’t think it would be enough for the project, but it is an interesting concept to think about.

Perhaps my issue is thinking too broad. Limitations breed creativity and I would likely need to narrow down my approach before embarking on an inspiration for my main project. However, if something comes up in a global stand point I will quickly jump on the opportunity.

Perhaps I could explore something out of my comfort zone. Some listed aesthetics I feel like I have not represented or “affiliated” with that caught my eye include:

  • Gothic
  • Punk
  • spacecore
  • voidcore

Space core especially caught my eye. There is nothing like getting lost in the endless array of stars and the lights from the milky way in a low light polluted area. Perhaps that is what I could explore further, and it is a “global” aesthetic as all humans experience being under the beautiful lights of space.

Perhaps a sort of globe with internal lights that could pierce through holes and emit space-like lighting.

This post felt more of a rant to start getting my ideas flowing as I continued to seek inspiration and ideas for my final project. I hope to make it meaningful and intend to seek both great gratitude in the quality of my project and also in how it represents me. I am excited to view what my peers have stated in their posts, and perhaps I could achieve great inspirations as well through what they choose to share.

I think this is great! I felt the same struggle to identify my aesthetic. I had a lot of the same interests and did something similar where I identified two to go off of. I wonder if you could put some example photos on either from the internet or other examples around your room!

Your post does a great job of exploring your aesthetic journey and how broad interests can influence your project. I really like how you connect global elements like music, sports, and space to your inspiration. Have you considered how you might incorporate the “spacecore” aesthetic into a functional design?
