I have decided to make coasters out of an old hockey stick. I need to cut them to size I am looking at making a 4.5×4.5 inch box of cut sticks then hot glueing them together and casing the sticks with wood. Next I fill the wood casing with epoxy to make an even surfaces across the sticks. I have had to go to multiple people to let me cut carbon fiber and source epoxy. I will be able to then let it dry in the finishing room of the idea forged. After it dries I want to add a dark stain to the wood since I like the aesthetic of stained wood compared to the light more raw look.
Similar to this project yet, I will be using epoxy, for different colored sticks, and stains on the wood. I am super excited to see how it turns out and gain experience with the different processes to make this come to life. I have been watching videos of how to work with epoxy since it is sensitive and I do not have extra sticks to cut if I mess up the pouring and sealing process. I am scheduled to come in and cut my sticks and wood on Thursday in the ITLL.

Hi Greg,
I really like the idea of this project, and it seems to be coming along well! I really like the addition of the four different colors, and I think the dark stain will look great. I’ve had to cut some CF for my senior project and the composites lab on East campus was really helpful for us.
Great job!
Hi Greg,
This is a super cool idea, I have made coasters out of scrap wood on the laser cutter and finished it with a mod podge. I feel like the hardest part of your process will be getting the epoxy flat and level. Make sure you have guides for this and maybe a level before hand. Good luck looking forward to seeing it!

Hello Greg,
Upcycling for coasters is a cool idea. I made some coasters out of acrylic for my house, which turned out great. I am also looking into epoxy, so if you have any tips or tricks for applying it, let me know! I also think it would be helpful to include some pictures of the materials you plan to use in your post, but overall, great job!
