The Idea
Imagine this, it’s the year 2800, and you have just gotten off a long day at work. Having recently receiving a promotion, you decide to go to the bar with your friends. You are on a tight budget, so you make your way to a sleazy bar on the outskirts of town. At the bar, you order a cold beer. What does this beer look like? This is the question my project aims to explore, mixing the futurism aesthetic, and steampunk aesthetic.
Future Aesthetic
This aesthetic aims to inspire wonder and curiosity, regarding what things in the future would look like. It is characterized by its geometric shapes, fluid lines, and dynamic compositions that impose a sense of progress. Common themes under this aesthetic include utopias, radical ideas, and futuristic scenarios. The most significant aspect of this aesthetic is the idea that it cultivates a mindset of limitless possibilities. This mindset embraces an optimistic view of the future with technological advancements, innovation, and forward thinking.
Steampunk Aesthetic
The steampunk aesthetic is a subgenre of science fiction, and focuses on technology designed in the 19th century and industrial machinery. As the name suggests, the aesthetic focuses on what the society would look like if the world was primarily powered by steam. The aesthetic often incudes visible gears, screws, dials, and metals.
Project Idea & Materials
The idea behind the project is to create a futuristic beer bottle, that you would find at a budget friendly bar. The bottle will incorporate ideas from both of the aesthetics’ mentioned above, incorporating a sleek design, while also looking like it would be cheaper in the future. As a senior I wanted to create something that was futuristic looking, while also being a nod to my time here in college. I would like this project to be something that I can look back at, and display as a work on art in my future home.
Materials for this project include the bottle itself, circuitry components, metal scraps, and gears. Rapid prototyping may also be utilized to create other aspects of the design, as well as glue and paint to make the project come together. I would also like to include a lighting element, which can make the bottle glow, and add to the overall aesthetic.

Hi Brenton,
This post does a great job showing the vision you have by defining both the futurism and steampunk aesthetics. I noticed how your post details the materials and potential techniques like adding circuitry and metal scraps to bring this combination to life. I would be interested to know how you plan to balance the sleek elements of the futuristic aesthetic with the mechanical features typical of steampunk. It looks like you have been making some great progress. I liked how you included the AI generated images which I think do a great job visualizing your aesthetics.
Hi Brenton, this sounds like a really cool idea! The mix of futuristic and steampunk aesthetics sounds great, especially with the idea of being in the year 2800. Looking forward to seeing the final result!
