Upcycle Progress: Gathering Materials & Getting Started

Since last week, I have made some progress on my Upcycle project. I have collected all my materials, including a sewing kit, embroidery hoop, needles, yarn, and some cute pink fabric. For the items I plan to embroider, I have gathered plain tote bags, a bucket hat (which I’ve already started embroidering), and my pink jean jacket.

I plan to work on my project every night for about an hour to destress. Sewing is a nice way to wind down in the evenings, and I think it will help me stay consistent. My goal is to finish at least one or two patterns each night. I also plan to attend some workshops that CU facilities offer. At the Idea Forge, I found some helpful workshops, including a weekly “Intro to Sewing” session. There’s also a self-guided canvas tote workshop that I would need to sign up for. (I have pictures of the flyers for the workshops.) I’d like to attend one of these workshops to help build my skills and gain more confidence in embroidery.

So far, I’ve enjoyed collecting materials and getting started on small embroidery designs. I know this project will take time, but I’m excited to see my progress and how the final piece turns out!

Hi, Ariana. I like the colors and materials you’ve chosen for your project. Going to the workshops is a great way to make progress and have fun learning more about sewing. I think it’s great that you’re consistently working on your project, and I love that you’re using it to destress. I also sew a lot for my major, and sometimes, working on a stuffed animal is a good way to reflect on your day. I’m excited to see what design you have for your pink jacket. Also, I like your pochacco mug. Good luck with your project!

Hi Ariana! Looks like you’re making steady progress towards completing your project, procuring materials is sometimes the slowest part! I liked how you mentioned that you’re going to use your project as a means of de-stressing for an hour or two everyday, that’s a great method for making the project enjoyable! Since you’re going for a cutesy aesthetic, are there any particular designs or ideas you had about what you’re going to embroider? Wishing you luck!
