Boho Vintage Candle Set Progress

Since my last post I have gone to the thrift store and looked for glasses to make my candles in. It seemed like my manifesting worked from my last post because I found a lot of glassware that I liked! I also found some old candles there that I bought to melt down and use in my candles, and some colored pebbles in one of the grab bags at goodwill, so I picked that up too to use to glue on my glass. I got these since I wasn’t sure my one old candle was enough to fill all of these glasses.

These are the glasses I found and got at Goodwill. I am super happy with what I found! Since some of them are colored already, I decided to not stain the rest because I want a nice variety of colors for this candle set. The squared glass is the one I plan on glueing pebbles to make the texture fun and radiate colors when it is lit.

One of the old candle wax packs that I found was scented and the other was not, so I ended up melting the two together and making them one. This was to tone down the scented one a little bit because it was a little much for me. To melt the wax I started with boiling water in a small pan on the stove, once this water was boiling I added my wax into a separate pot and put that over the boiling water. Then I just waited for all of my wax to melt. While I was waiting for the wax to melt, added my wicks in and put clips on them to balance on the glass to hold them straight while the wax cools. I then poured the melted wax into my glasses on aluminum foil to help regulate the temperature of the glass. The wicks were a little fragile so I took the clips off as soon as I could so they wouldn’t break apart.

I ended up not fully filling one of the three glasses that I did in this round, so when I finish doing the other two I will add more on top of the first fill to make it more full if I have enough wax. I also still need to glue on the pebbles that I got to my square glass. For the green chalice glass, I read somewhere that candle glasses should be a pretty thick glass, so I am scared to pour the hot wax in there but I really love the color green and the unique shape of this glass so I really want to use it. But the one I did on this first round with the sort of ribbed outside is thinner than the green one so I think I will be okay. I also read that putting flowers into candles too close to the wick could be dangerous, so since my glasses are pretty small I don’t know if I will end up adding flowers. If I do, I probably just won’t light that candle too often.

The image on the left is my square glass filled with the pebbles I got from Goodwill that I will glue on the outside. The image on the right is my old candle I plan on using for the next two candles and maybe if I have enough to fill the not so full candle.

So far, I am super happy with how my candles are turning out and I am excited to keep working on this project!

  • Hi Arden,
The colorful pebbles look so cool. I am really intrigued to see what they look like in the end. Kudos to you for making so much progress this early. Maybe you should look into clear wax for the pebbles so they don’t get covered by the wax, not sure if that existed but it’s worth a shot.
