I plan on creating lithophanes using a 3D printer. I chose to use a white PLA filament as my base material and have prior experience with different print settings to get the best results. I found that using a higher resolution and a slower print speed produced the best quality lithophanes with the most detail. I will select my favourite images of friends and family and use a lithophane generator to convert them into 3D printable files.
Once I have all six lithophanes printed and ready to go, I will mount them to the wooden skeleton using adhesive. I am planning to use an Arduino to control the LEDs, which will allow me to turn on each side individually or all at once.
The final result will be a wooden MDF structure with six personalized lithophane sides that will be backlit by LEDs. This project combines my love for woodworking, 3D printing, and electronics, to create something that will be both practical and visually appealing.

I love the personal quality of this project – the ability to choose any creative image for the project while being able to reproduce it and make changes will definitely make for a unique and stunning artifact. The use of light in a 3D context as well as imagery in a 2D context is very interesting as well. I am excited to see what you create and how you increase resolution and clarity in your images!
