For my main project, I would like to create a flower that opens when it’s dark out, and closes when it’s bright. It’s a moonlit flower. I chose this design idea as a way of integrating the beauty of “nature” into the night as well. For the most part, plants are the most active and interesting during the day because they photosynthesize. I would like to change that simply for the potential beauty in it. The night is naturally so beautiful, and the moon only adds character, my goal is to try and replicate that in a flower. My current plan is to have a dark exterior and a bright interior. Something such as navy blue petals for their exterior, and white for the interior. I’d also like to have at least one LED on the inside that lights up as the flower opens. My featured image is the progress I’ve made thus far. It is the 6 petals I created in a closed formation, and still needs a lot of work. In the best case scenario, the actuation will be fully automatic, however in the worst case scenario, it might have to be manually done.

Hello Heider! What an ambitious project you have here. It seems quite challenging to make an entire gear system from scratch. Is your plan to 3D print all of the components?
Heider, this is really cool and unique, I’m excited to see what it looks like when its done. How complex will this be? How many parts will it have?
Heider,
I have never seen something like this before! I look forward to seeing the finished product. What aesthetic are you meaning to achieve with this?
