For my upcycle project, I decided to go with the After Hours aesthetic. The After Hours aesthetic is defined by the feelings you get from empty places at night time rather than a physical sense of aesthetic. From a visual sense, the After Hours aesthetic can be found in an empty bar, a dimly lit bus stop, streetlights, closed-up shops, and even blowing trash. However, this aesthetic is not supposed to invoke negative or unsettling feelings, on the contrary, it is supposed to give off a feeling of tranquility and defiance. After Hours is often associated with activities such as smoking, night driving, studying, night shift working, and other activities associated with late hours. I chose this aesthetic because it defined an era of my life, and I very much relate to and enjoy it. I still do not have a clear idea of exactly what I will be making for my Upcycle Project, however, I will use this aesthetic as my inspiration in creating it.

    Hi Ali,
I enjoyed learning about the after hours aesthetic from your post. I’m excited to see how you’ll incorporate this aesthetic via upcycling. From the content of your post, it seems like lighting and dark colors are very important parts of your aesthetic. Do you have any initial ideas about how what you’ll be upcycling to help create your aesthetic?

    • Hi Alexander,
Thanks for your insightful feedback, I’m glad you enjoyed my post. I currently have a vague idea of what my project will be, it will definitely involve dim lighting schemes and dark colors, possibly illustrating a certain location at night. I will most likely be using cardboard and LED lights amongst other upcycled items.
