The two projects we worked on for this class were the upcycling project and the final project. For the upcycling project, I chose to upcycle scrap steel and create bookends. The process helped me to combine multiple different skills that I learned throughout my years as a mechanical engineer. Some of these skills included metal working, sand blasting, and welding. The bookends were very practical. However, one thing that this project lacked was a very specific aesthetic. Throughout my time spent in this course learning about aesthetics timeline, I was able to widen my definition of aesthetics. As a result, my final project followed more closely to a nautical aesthetic and was less functional than the previous upcycle project that I worked on.
