For my upcycle project, I am making a fire pit out of cardboard. I got my inspiration from all the time I spent this summer around the fire with my friends, and my general affinity for fires. After looking at all the circular designs online, and realizing it would be impossible to print these shapes, I stumbled upon some square fire put designs that could easily be laser cut and assembled using limited adhesives. I found the most inspiration from the picture below, which I tried to base my design off of as much as possible

Since I cannot just adhere the pieces of cardboard together without guiding them into place, I will have to use some slots and tabs to make sure all of the pieces line up. On my actual fire pit, I included some designs that are intricate and fun. As you can see from the design below, I included a star and a spiral, giving it an almost space vibe. This was by design of course, as I always associate fire pits with the beautiful night sky that always accompanies it, and I wanted to include that on my fire pit

This is a really neat idea. Your inspiration was strong and you brought out the star aesthetic well. Since you had to paint it, it may have matched the fireplace aesthetic more if you painted it black. Good work.

  • This is a cool idea and I really like that your inspiration came from your own interests and likes. At first, I was surprised that you chose cardboard as your material for a fire pit. In all honesty, I am still somewhat unsure of how this will work, so I can’t wait to see the end result! Also, great addition with the design patterns!

Hi Andrew! I love that you are including your own personal design inspired by the night sky, as I am doing something very similar. I think the idea of making a fire pit out of cardboard is cool too because you could actually burn it if you wanted to which is something unique. I’m excited to see the finished product!
