I hit a bit of a predicament. As I entered the wood shop on Friday to being working on my jewelry box I first spoke to Marc in the ITLL to ask him a quick question. It was at that point that he informed me that the wood I have purchased was not going to work. I should have talked to him earlier. He directed me to a site D&D hardwood where I could buy much nicer wood, that more importantly was hardwood, the wood I have bought was too soft wand would likely warp during construction.
I ordered a few boards of African Mahogany which at the end of the day will look much nicer than the original board I have purchased. Marc also encouraged me to use box joints rather than dowel pins so I’ve had to redesign a bit.
Now I’m just waiting for my wood to arrive and then I will be ready to get back into the wood shop and build my box!

Good thing you didn’t procrastinate too much otherwise this could have been a tough situation! Getting someone’s help who is more experienced will definitely make your end result look really great and be something that can last a long time for your Mom. Do you know when your wood is coming in?
Have you picked an aesthetic yet?
It sounds like you have a little bump in the road to work out but you should still have enough time to finish so I wouldn’t be too worried! I think that this will look awesome when it is done and I can’t wait to see it! Good work.
