While procrastinating brainstorming for this project, I stumbled across something called fidget toys (particularly fidget spinners).

They appear to be getting trendy and are for people who like to keep their hands occupied at all times. The idea for these toys are to replace habits like pen clicking and foot tapping with something less distracting for the people around you. It’s to the point where there are “high precision CNC machined” spinners that go for about $100.

So I decided I will make one using bearings from my skateboard and objects lying around my house to see if I can get the same desired effect as a high quality one. The aesthetic I will be going for is minimal/functional.

  • Like the idea a lot and have thought about getting one myself! I am defiantly more drawn to the spinning fidget tools as well.

I could use one of these, I always need to be occupied. So are you going for a spinner like the one in the video? If so I think it would be really cool if you added another fidget function like clicker or something as well.

  • Cool idea. I love fidget toys! They are small interesting little gadgets that keep my hands occupied. I have never seen a spinner before, but it’ll be an interesting learning experience trying to recreate one on a CNC machine. I wish you the best of luck!
