Audrey Hepburn
The most important things is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters. “
Audrey Hepburn is an icon for numerous reasons, including her dance career, fashion legacy and acting roles, but furthermore for her encouragement of love and beauty. She is known for her personal aesthetic, and her name alone is considered a “recognizable brand” by fashion industries. Hepburn is most iconic for her chic fashion, bold lipstick, inspirational quotes, humanitarian work, and feminine encouragement. She is beauty, elegance, and grace.
Hepburn grew up during World War II in the Netherlands and experienced a multitude of traumatic events, including watching trainloads of Jews being transported to concentration camps. She later moved to Amsterdam to pursue her ballet studies and early acting roles; the start of a soon-to-be icon. The struggle in Hepburn’s upbringing allowed her to embrace the positive lifestyle she encouraged throughout her fame.
Hepburn’s legacy lives long past her time. Her image embodied the perfect feminine ideal, and her optimism, despite the hardships in her life, brought a high level of respect to her femininity. Hepburn had short, sassy hair, thick eyebrows and a slim body. She wore monochromatic colors while glamorizing her outfits with statement accessories and a pair of heels (or ballet flats). Hepburn is clean, black and white, bold, confident and strong, while also elegant, graceful, calm, pink, and poised. Her look became a statement in the beauty industry and an aesthetic for women to admire.
Although Hepburn is a major fashion icon, her genuine heart and encouragement of women everywhere is idolized as well. She used her large following to make a difference in women’s live’s an encourage them to be their best, most beautiful selves. She is known for a multitude of quotes stating that beauty comes from being happy within and finding the good in other people. A few of her most famous ones include:
“A woman can be beautiful as well as intellectual”
“As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, one for helping others”
“The beauty in a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart; the place where love resides”
Hepburn’s outer beauty appeared even more glamorous because of her kind heart. She was recognized by George Bush with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her humanitarian work. She also has a statue in the United Nations Special Sessions on Children headquarters for her service with the children. She cared about making a difference in the world, and embodied a parallel of inner and outer beauty.
Hepburn was named the “most beautiful women of all time” and the “most beautiful woman of the 20th century” in polls by Evian and QVC. Her beauty and elegance continue to encourage women to embrace their femininity and simply enjoy life. Hepburn embodied the life she encouraged, full of laughter, happiness, and the color pink.

Hailee, I very much enjoyed your post! My mom was a very big fan of Audrey Hepburn and believed in what she stood for, we even have a canvas of her in our house! The visual aid that you added really complimented your post. My favorite quote is the last one of her beauty tips in the newspaper article “For poise, walk with knowledge and you’ll never walk alone”. Good work!
