For my project I have decided to change course a bit and go with a more dynamic idea. Originally I wanted to create an Apple Watch charging station, but I have moved instead to creating a portable speaker that has a very futuristic aesthetic. I came up with this idea because I worked at Comcast last year as an engineering and innovations intern. At that role I had to create tons of interesting and unique devices to accomplish a task. Their design aesthetic was very futuristic and minimalistic which I enjoy quite a lot. From this experience, I felt that I could use my previous practices and a similar aesthetic in creating a new device to fulfill my needs.

Here are my renderings of the concept I went off of. You can tell it has a futuristic appeal and looks nice in a modern home. I’m hoping to place a speaking within the casing so that it is actually practical to use. I will 3D print the material so that I may be able to prototype as many times as I would like.

Professional looking renderings! What do you think your biggest challenges will be with this?

I like the aesthetic maybe you can find a way to implement wireless charging. It might be complicated but it would give it a true portable feeling.

I really like the idea of creating your own speaker. The futuristic aesthetic you chose is really nice. Are you going to use a speaker and disassemble it?

This is very cool, having a very fleshed out prototype really helped get an idea for what you’re trying t do with the project. Have you prototyped the functionality of the hidden buttons yet? maybe a good idea to do so before making the final product.

The speaker has a really cool look to it, and will fit in most situations. You mentioned that it could be portable, was the intention to have it be battery powered or just easy to move?

Your prototype is one of the best I have seen. It looks sleak and gets the point across well. Im excited to see the finished product!

  • The futuristic look is very appealing. I thought the prototype and rendering were well thought out. Will this speaker be bluetooth or chorded?

This project looks really cool and I like the renderings you made in SolidWorks! The aesthetic is cool and modern and sleek which I really like. The stand is a good way to compensate for not liking the way it looked on the wall.

Great Prototype. What kind of 3D material are you going to print it with? How will the volume change or can you change it other than taking off the mesh face? Great idea.
